Review: "Recount" - 3 stars
It lacked the killer performances and production value that usually make HBO films, but was a terrific event study.
Even as a Democrat, I remember thinking Al Gore was being whiny and postponing the inevitable with his appeals. This film paints a very clear picture of how valiant and necessary these efforts were. Florida was halfway done with the recount before they decided that they didn’t have time to finish. Two out of four counties had been covered, and they both went to Gore.
The film ends with a dolly shot down the halls of the storage house where the boxes of ballots are still kept and uncounted. It’s amazing that we could still know who actually won.
