Web Site Story, written and directed by me. A tribute to my three big loves: film, theater, and the internet. Also produced by Eva and shot by Vince with a huge and talented cast. Digg it.

Jeff Rubin, king of puns, thought of the title. The opening Google Maps shots are analogous with the rooftop shots that open the “West Side Story” movie. ”The Skateboard Escape” from Back to the Future is actually on Hulu. eHarmony recently opened up a sister site for gays called Compatible Partners, but still refuses to accept gays into eHarmony because of its Christian backing.

The music was done by Carl Sondrol, who had legit trumpeters visit his Chicago recording studio, while the singing was recorded here in New York by Morgan Whirledge. In most cases, it’s the actual actors doing the singing.

All the interiors were shot in studio and all the exteriors on very cold rooftops in Williamsburg. ”The Net Song” was done using a rotating platform that Vince and our PM Bennett thought of day-of. ”Twitter” and “Pandora” were choreographed by Celia Rowlson-Hall.

The last scene, “Evite,” was shot until 6am. We used a scissor lift to get those epic crane shots. Around 4am, Bennett said “I wanted to go home, but then I saw the shot, and now I don’t care how long we’re here.”

I’ve been thinking long and hard about this and, I’m jumping in head first. I have started the first 9:16 film festival. Yes, that is a tall frame. I’ve been thinking a lot about the new iPhone and the video record and decided that we need to break in this tall frame format.

There are two categories here, One Shot and 5 Minutes. One shot is, one shot. As if you shot it on your iPhone. And maybe you did. No visual editing here, just one shot and then upload. The other is 5 Minutes. Just a short (up to 5 minutes) shot in this new canvas.

Goals: get a ton of coverage in a short amount of time; establish direct relationships between shots (i.e. the zoom into the button and out of the sign at 0:15, the whip pan at 0:35, the mid-zoom cut at 1:04). We rehearsed the hell out of the final beat with Chuck and Billy in order to make it feel very zombie.

Digg it.

Canon just announced a firmware upgrade for the Canon 5D Mark ii that allows users to control aperture when shooting video, thus solving my only gripe with the system.

The 1080p on-lenses footage is very similar to what we get with CollegeHumor’s HVX and P+S lens adapter, only $2,500 instead of $20,000. Using this, I can even plug in a high quality shotgun mic.

This is by far the best tool on the market for making wonderful cheap videos.
